The thyroid is a small butterfly-shaped gland inside the neck. It is found below the voice box (larynx) and in front of the windpipe (trachea). It produces two thyroid hormones—T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine)—that travel through the blood to all tissues of the body.
If you have any of the following signs and symptoms, consult with your medical provider as this may indicate hypothyroid:
- Fatigue
- Weakness
- Slow heart and pulse rate
- irregular menses
- constipation
- cold
- low body temperature
- dry skin and hair
- cough
- weight gain
